Master's Degree

Why did you decide to pursue your Master's degree?

  1. You made me think with your poll question! For me, it was a combination of three things: further my education so I can possible get involved in the tech side of education, to make more money, and because I love the Ed Tech field! I have no regrets! :)

    1. I did it for a number of reasons too. I am very glad I did it, but I am very ready to graduate.

  2. I started this program at a time in my life when I was starting over...in many ways. I won't go into detail but it was a leap of blind faith. A friend of mine researched the program and said it was the best and I should do it. He was right. As I will start new endeavors this fall, it would not be possible without this master's degree. I truly believe that we are where we are supposed to be. I feel fortunate and blessed that I made the leap when I did. Timing plays a big role in life. Though we know not what the future brings, it is best to be prepared. Love your blog!!!

    1. Glad you were able to have a friend help push you in a good direction. I was so scared to start my Master's. I wasn't sure I could handle it, but here I am almost two years later so happy that I started. I think getting started is half the battle. Once we graduate I know it will be worth all the hard work.

  3. I definitely had trouble deciding between making more money and furthering my education because it really is both. I think it's important as a librarian to be up to date on technology which is why I chose this specific master's degree (my second). But once I get 30 more credits, I will be at the top of my pay scale horizontally, so that doesn't hurt either!

  4. Great question and one I have had to think about while finishing up the program this semester. When I sat down to put together my eportolio for EdTech 592, this question was staring me in the face. I feel now that it was to better myself, but going in to the program it was also to make more money. I hadn't really thought of leaving my current job, but who knows how long school libraries will be around so it is always good to have options I think. Thanks for helping us reflect.

    1. I hope libraries in schools stick around. You guys have an important job. My kindergarten students LOVE going to library each week and checking out books.

  5. I chose to get my Masters because I wanted it - to say I did it. Second, I wanted the pay increase since we are underpaid to begin with. I wanted to get it in Administration at first, but with my husband's job in the military, that would be hard to secure a job until he retires. I LOVE technology so I chose this program, and I have been happy with that decision since!

    1. We are underpaid, that is the main reason I started looking at degrees. To help bring in more income. I decided I wanted to do it while I was young(ish) and while my daughter was young so I wouldn't miss any of her sporting events, dance, etc. when she got older due to grad school.
